About Danville

Danville is one of Yell County’s two seats, laid out in 1841 on the south side of the Petit Jean River where the Ozark and Ouachita country comes together. The river once carried steamboat traffic—Ben Coursin reached Danville in 1861—and the railroad arrived in 1899, giving the county seat another route toward Little Rock and the west. State Highways 10, 27, and 80 now converge near the center, with Danville High School and the city’s airport adding present-day landmarks. Danville is an Arkansas county seat built around river, road, and mountain-valley crossings.
