Danville, OH

Danville is a Knox County village with a history built from several nearby settlements. George Sapp Sr. and Robert Waddell laid out the original Danville in 1813, naming it for Daniel Sapp, a War of 1812 soldier. The modern village took shape in 1923, when Danville joined with Buckeye City and Rosstown, also called Rossville. Buckeye City had been laid out in 1880 and later became a Danville neighborhood, so local street patterns still carry traces of those separate beginnings.

Today, Danville Local School District operates Danville High School, and the village library is a branch of the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County. Danville also marks the meeting of two recreational routes: the Kokosing Gap Trail ends here, while the Mohican Valley Trail begins nearby. That trail connection brings cyclists and walkers into a village whose older story is tied to roads, neighboring settlements, and the gradual knitting together of a small Knox County community. The library and trailheads add another layer to that shared geography.
