Daphne's “Jubilee City” name refers to a real and unpredictable Mobile Bay event. On some calm summer mornings, oxygen-poor bottom water pushes blue crabs, shrimp, flounder, eels, and other fish into the shallows, where word spreads and people arrive with nets and buckets. The phenomenon is not a scheduled attraction, but it shapes local identity and gives its name to the free Jubilee Festival of Arts in Olde Towne. The city's regular calendar also uses the shoreline for spring and fall Brown Bag by the Bay concerts, sunset concerts, and a May Day celebration. Village Point Park Preserve protects more than 80 contiguous acres with a beach, pier, boardwalks, wooded trails, wetlands, the historic D'Olive Cemetery, and Jackson's Oak. May Day Park supplies another beach, pier, playground, and canoe or kayak launch.

Daphne grew from 27,462 residents in 2020 to an estimated 31,396 in July 2025. For 2020 through 2024, owner occupancy was 72 percent, the median owner-occupied value was $323,400, monthly costs for owners with a mortgage were $1,713, and median gross rent was $1,388. During the same 2020 through 2024 period, median household income was $87,250, poverty was seven percent, and workers averaged about 25 minutes of travel to work. As of July 2026, Bayfront Park remained closed for construction of a waterfront amphitheater, expanded parking and restrooms, a splash pad, and connecting boardwalks. Completion was expected in spring 2027, with limited pier access available by foot through Village Point.
