About Davisboro

Davisboro is a Washington County city with a post office that has been operating since 1821. The place was likely named for a pioneer named Davis, then incorporated by the Georgia General Assembly in 1894. Its railroad chapter matters too: a 1840 line brought a station and daily stops, and the Hardwick Inn was built in 1842 for passengers before a cyclone destroyed it in 1883. Davisboro was also caught in Sherman’s 1864 campaign, when troops met in town and destroyed it as they left. The modern surprise is solar: Azalea Solar Park opened in 2013 with 7 megawatts of ground-mounted photovoltaic panels.
