De Soto, IL

Located just six miles north of Carbondale, De Soto is a small Southern Illinois village that offers a peaceful, laid-back setting with easy access to Southern Illinois University. Home to around 1,400 residents, the town sits right along Route 51 and Route 149, making daily drives to Carbondale, Murphysboro, and Du Quoin quick and straightforward. While De Soto grew out of the railroad and coal industries in the 1800s, today it is a quiet residential community popular with commuters and families looking for lower housing costs.
