Dearborn, MO

Dearborn is a small city spread across Platte and Buchanan counties in the Kansas City metropolitan area, with 482 residents in the 2020 census. The city was incorporated in 1882 and named for Henry Dearborn, the Revolutionary War general and Secretary of War. Its center sits about half a mile south of the county line, while Dearborn Reservoir lies just north across it. That geography gives the city a two-county address and an easy rural-outdoor neighbor.

Dearborn's school route runs through North Platte R-1: the junior high and high school are in town, while intermediate classes are in Edgerton and elementary school in Camden Point. From 1913 to 1933, the Kansas City, Clay County and St. Joseph Railway stopped here as an interurban line between Kansas City and St. Joseph. Today local streets, school buses, the reservoir, and the old rail corridor connect farm country to the larger metro area. Dearborn works as a northern Missouri place with a surprisingly broad map for its population.
