About Deer Park
Deer Park occupies pine barrens in the northeastern corner of the Town of Babylon on Long Island. The 2020 census counted 28,837 residents. The Long Island Rail Road arrived in 1842; eleven years later, Charles Wilson established a large farm that helped begin the present community. Deer Park later became the site of Edgewood State Hospital, which began as a tuberculosis sanatorium and served as an Army hospital during World War II. Most of the hamlet lies in Deer Park School District, while a small section north of Old Country Road is in Half Hollow Hills Central School District.
