About Deerwood

Deerwood is an unincorporated Montgomery County census-designated place first listed before the 2020 census. The 2020 count was 1,745 residents. Deerwood lies about ten miles east of Conroe, two miles southeast of Texas State Highway 105, in the southwestern corner of Sam Houston National Forest. The BNSF Railway's Conroe Division borders the CDP to the south, giving the place a distinct mix of forest edge, rail corridor, and scattered residential roads.

Most of Deerwood is in Conroe Independent School District, while a portion is in Splendora Independent School District. That split is part of the practical map, along with the road into Conroe for county services and the forest lands managed for wildlife and public recreation. The nearby Sam Houston National Forest wildlife area covers 47,609 acres in Montgomery County and supports hunting and other outdoor recreation. Deerwood has no incorporated municipal government; its identity comes from the named Census boundary, school assignments, county roads, and the larger Montgomery County landscape around it.
