Del Aire, CA

Seven-acre Del Aire Park gives this roughly one-square-mile Los Angeles County community its most substantial public gathering place. The county facility is open from early morning through evening and combines a community center and gym with ball fields, basketball and tennis courts, volleyball, a playground, picnic tables, and barbecue space. Its program listings include after-school activities, team sports, day camps, computer classes, and summer lunch. A second recreation investment arrived in April 2026, when Wiseburn Unified opened a sports complex at 135th Street and Aviation Boulevard with fields laid out for softball, Little League, and soccer, plus restrooms and parking. Del Aire had 10,338 residents in 2020 within 1.01 square miles. Del Aire's map is unusually fragmented. Two irregular sections are joined by a narrow strip across El Segundo Boulevard, wedged among Hawthorne, El Segundo, and the I-105/I-405 interchange.

Aviation/Imperial station sits just outside the census area's boundary and serves Metro's C Line between Norwalk and the LAX/Metro Transit Center. That airport transit center opened in June 2025 with C and K Line connections and a free terminal shuttle, expanding rail options for airport-area trips. Los Angeles Air Force Base is also immediately adjacent in El Segundo. Wiseburn Unified serves Del Aire and nearby communities, placing district campuses and the new sports fields across boundaries that are less meaningful in a family's daily schedule than they appear on a map. The result is a compact place whose most useful shared assets—the county park, school grounds, sports fields, and rail—sit within or immediately against its irregular outline.
