Dennison, OH

Dennison is a Tuscarawas County village built around the 100-mile limit of steam rail travel. Founded in 1864 as a railroad water stop halfway between Columbus and Pittsburgh, it grew into a major Pennsylvania Railroad shop and yard complex, with 40 acres of facilities, 21 passenger trains and 21 freight trains passing daily, and about 3,000 railroad employees at its peak. The Dennison Railroad Depot Museum now occupies the old station and keeps the village's rail history close at hand. Coal helped drive the development too. The local shorthand is water stop, railroad shops, coal, and a depot that remembers when trains set the schedule.
