Depauville is a hamlet and census-designated place in the southern region of Clayton, within Jefferson County, New York, United States. The 2020 census counted 488 residents. The Oneida considered the tract as a gift to Pierre Penet. Depauville hamlet is located at the junction of New York State Route 12 and County Roads 11, 12, and 179. Depauville provides community events held at each of two churches, the fire department banquet hall and public library. Depauville also has a small town market and a bar, the Depauville Hotel. That mix gives Depauville a clear local shape within New York, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. Depauville includes the CCC established a headquarters consisting of ten camps at the Madison Barracks in Sackets Harbor. The village is mostly on the south bank of the Chaumont River.
