Desha, AR

Desha is a quiet rural community just southwest of Batesville along Highway 25 in Independence County. It gives residents a peaceful country lifestyle while keeping everyday errands, dining, and healthcare in Batesville only minutes away. The community originally took root along Alderbrook Creek in the nineteenth century, a name that still marks the local Alderbrook Cemetery. Much of the area stretches across the Greenbrier Bottoms toward Locust Grove, where wide open farmland and quiet country lanes define the scenery.

The surrounding hills have their share of interesting history as well. Outlaws once used nearby Brock Mountain and Jamestown Mountain as hideouts, and early family names still mark local roads and properties. The old cotton gins and rural schoolhouses have long since given way to modern family farms and homesteads. Today, Desha is an appealing spot for anyone looking for extra acreage, starry night skies, and an easy commute into town.
