About Destrehan
Destrehan is a St. Charles Parish community on the east bank of the Mississippi River, upriver from New Orleans. Its best-known landmark is Destrehan Plantation, one of the oldest documented houses in the lower Mississippi River valley, built beginning in 1787 and completed in 1790. That history sits alongside modern river-parish life: levees, industry, schools, subdivisions, and easy access to the New Orleans metro. Destrehan feels rooted and local, with plantation-era architecture and working river infrastructure occupying the same landscape.
