Dewey Beach, DE

Tucked onto a sliver of land between the Atlantic Ocean and Rehoboth Bay, Dewey Beach is only about a mile long and two blocks wide. That compact layout means you can easily walk from a morning swim in the surf to an evening paddleboard session on the bay without touching your car keys. Delaware Route 1 runs straight through the middle of town, giving residents a quick drive north to the year-round shops and restaurants in Rehoboth Beach, or south toward quieter coastal parks.

Daily life here centers around the water and a very laid-back beach routine. Summertime brings a lively energy with waterfront dining and live music, while the cooler months bring a peaceful, close-knit neighborhood feel. It is also known as one of the most dog-friendly towns along the coast, where locals routinely run into each other during morning walks on the sand.
