Dewey, OK

Dewey is a Washington County city just north of Bartlesville, about 49 miles north of Tulsa and 15 miles south of the Kansas line. Its 2020 population was 3,372. Jake Bartles moved his store north from Bartlesville in the 1890s, the Dewey Hotel followed in 1899, and oil drilling helped the town grow. The old hotel is now a museum, while Dewey Portland Cement left behind concrete streets, sidewalks, poles, houses, and public buildings. Dewey's present-day map still leans toward local history.

Tom Mix served as town marshal in 1912, and the Tom Mix Museum, Dewey Hotel Museum, and Prairie Song Pioneer Village put those stories on the town map. Western Heritage Weekend returns each October, and the Dewey Roundup's former rodeo ground is now part of the high school complex. Highway 75 and a rail spur keep the town tied to the wider region. Dewey is a small Oklahoma city where oil, cement, rodeo, and a silent-film legend still share the same map.
