Dilkon, AZ

Dilkon is a Navajo County census-designated place on the Colorado Plateau, within the Hopi Buttes volcanic field. The 2010 census counted 1,184 residents. The name is often connected with a Navajo phrase meaning "smooth black rock" or "bare surface," a fitting reference to the dark volcanic landscape around the community. Dilkon lies on the Navajo Nation's eastern Arizona landscape, with Arizona 87 and Navajo Route 15 serving as the main crossroads.

School boundaries divide the area: much of Dilkon belongs to Holbrook Unified School District, while a portion is assigned to Joseph City Unified School District. Indian Wells Elementary is nearby, and older students connect with schools in Holbrook or Winslow.
