Dove Creek, CO

Dove Creek is Dolores County's seat and most populous town, where the 2020 census counted 635 residents. The community takes its name from nearby Dove Creek and sits on U.S. 491 in western Colorado. The Old Spanish Trail passed through the area from 1829 into the 1850s, and the local post office opened in 1915. County records moved here from Rico in 1946, giving Dove Creek its courthouse role as well as its highway location.

Dove Creek calls itself the Pinto Bean Capital of the World, and beans still shape the surrounding farming economy. The bean story reaches from fields to local businesses and school life. Midland Bean and Adobe Milling connect the town to processing and regional food markets, while the Dolores County Industrial Park sits west of town. Dolores County School District RE-2J operates an elementary school and a junior/senior high school locally. The result is a Four Corners town with a county courthouse, bean fields, highway businesses, and a trail history that reaches back before the modern streets.
