Dover, MN

Dover is an Olmsted County city whose older name, Dover Center, came from its position near the middle of Dover Township. Settlers from the Dover, New Hampshire area arrived in the 1850s, and the village took shape after railroads built depots through the area; it incorporated as a city in 1908. The South Branch of the Whitewater River passes along the northern edge, while U.S. Route 14 runs north of town and Interstate 90 lies to the south. Dover-Eyota schools serve the community, and the city’s location between Rochester and Winona keeps it tied to the wider southeast Minnesota road network. Dover is a small river-and-railroad place whose main routes still tell the story of how it grew.
