Doyle, CA

Doyle is a Lassen County census-designated place in southern Lassen County, set along Long Valley Creek about 40 miles southeast of Susanville and 45 miles northwest of Reno. The community took shape as a stage stop and rail point: John Doyle settled in the area in 1859, the Nevada-California-Oregon Railway reached the station in 1888, and the Western Pacific followed in 1909. The railroads turned a high-desert settlement into a place where the road, mail, and freight lines met.

Today Doyle’s practical map includes Long Valley Charter School, the Doyle Fire Department, and the South Lassen County Senior Citizen Club. Wildfire, extreme heat, and power outages are major planning concerns in the valley, and a Bureau of Land Management project brought the BLM, Plumas National Forest, CAL FIRE, Lassen County, and local partners together to expand the Doyle fire station for wildland response.
