About Dresbach

Dresbach is an unincorporated Winona County community on the west bank of the Mississippi River. The 2020 census counted 272 residents, and Interstate 90 runs through town between Winona and La Crosse. US 61 and US 14 briefly share the interstate here, making Dresbach a place where the river, regional highways, and bluff-country roads meet. Great River Bluffs State Park is nearby, with overlooks and wooded slopes that frame the Mississippi valley.

The community and its township were named for George B. Dresbach, who founded Dresbach and served in the Minnesota legislature. Rail travel still passes through: Amtrak's Empire Builder uses the BNSF line, though it does not stop in town; the nearest station is in La Crosse. The highway and rail lines keep the river valley connected. That combination of river, highway, rail, and bluffs gives Dresbach a distinctly corridor-shaped setting. Its present-day map is easy to read through the transportation lines, while the park and river keep the surrounding landform visible from the community.
