About Dresden

Dresden sits at the mouth of Wakatomika Creek on the Muskingum River, so water is the first clue to the village. The name Wakatomika reaches back to a Shawnee village in this area, while later Dresden was incorporated in 1835 and linked to the Ohio and Erie Canal system by a side cut. The village is also the birthplace of the Longaberger Company, the basket maker whose name became part of Ohio’s modern craft story. Dresden is in the Tri-Valley school district and the Zanesville micropolitan area. The quick local read is river junction, Indigenous history, canal-era movement, and baskets.
