Drumright, OK

Drumright is an oil town whose streets were laid out by the 1912 strike on the Frank Wheeler farm. The discovery fed the Cushing-Drumright Field, pulled workers into Creek County, and turned the new settlement into a boomtown; Drumright incorporated in 1913, became a city in 1915, and adopted its current charter in 1949. The oil economy later thinned, but it still shows up in the town's buildings and institutions. A former refinery-worker school now houses a winery, the Santa Fe Depot holds the Oil Field Museum, and murals on the Boomtown Theatre and at Way Park carry the oil-era story into the present. Central Technology Center gives Drumright a major training role, alongside agriculture, remaining oil activity, and the local school district. This is a town that wears its boomtown past openly.
