Dryden, NY

Dryden is a village in eastern Tompkins County, about 12 miles northeast of Ithaca and 13 miles southwest of Cortland. The 2020 census counted 1,887 residents. NY 13 crosses the village, while U.S. 38 comes up from the south. The village sits inside the larger Town of Dryden, yet it has its own municipal government and a recognizable center shaped by Route 13, older homes, small businesses, and surrounding rural roads. Dryden Central School District serves the wider town, and Tompkins Cortland Community College has been part of the village since 1974.

The village's history reaches back to the Central New York Military Tract, and the name honors the English poet John Dryden. Current downtown work through New York's NY Forward program is aimed at reinvestment in the village center. Ithaca and Cortland are close enough for larger trips, while the village, school district, college, and road junction keep everyday activity local. The village center is where the old routes, college life, and present-day errands meet.
