About Due West

Due West is an Abbeville County town built around the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and the schools that grew from it. An ARP academy opened here in 1835, became Erskine College in 1839, and the seminary followed; the town's college connection still shapes its calendar and streets. The Erskine College-Due West Historic District includes 88 properties dating from roughly 1840 to 1930, and the town also keeps the old Due West railroad depot in the story. The name has more than one explanation, but the local feel is clear: Due West is a small South Carolina Piedmont town where church, college, and historic buildings sit in the same frame.
