About Duncan Falls
Duncan Falls is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in southern Muskingum County, along State Route 60 south of Zanesville. The Muskingum River forms its southern edge, with the village of Philo on the opposite bank, and Salt Creek reaches the river at the community's eastern side. The name comes from Major Duncan, an early hunter and trapper who settled near a falls in the 1790s; the old story says he was killed while trying to cross the river. The modern community still has a clear local center at Main Street, including the Duncan Falls/Philo Branch Library and its meeting room. The ZIP Code is 43734, and Route 60 connects the river settlement to Zanesville upstream and McConnelsville downstream. Duncan Falls is a river-crossing community where the name, road, library, and neighboring Philo all point back to the water.
