About Dune Acres
Dune Acres is a Porter County town on the south shore of Lake Michigan, set in Indiana's duneland between the lake and the inland communities. The town sits inside a larger preservation story: lakeshore residents and early advocates worked to protect pieces of the dunes, and the Save the Dunes movement helped push the area toward a national park. The National Park Service identifies Cowles Dune between Dune Acres and the NIPSCO plant, and a 2019 fuel break was built along the town's southwest edge. Dune Acres is an Indiana lakeshore town where homes, dunes, and preservation history meet.
