Dunnstown, PA

Dunnstown sits on the north bank of the West Branch Susquehanna, across the water from Lock Haven. Pennsylvania Route 150 crosses through the community toward the county seat, making the river a daily geographic reference as well as a piece of local history. The settlement is in Woodward Township, and the cemetery there is regarded as one of the county's oldest. Dunnstown's story is tied to the same river corridor that carried the West Branch Canal into the Lock Haven area in the 1830s. It is a compact place, but its setting gives the place its character: a road crossing, an old river town opposite, and the cemetery and canal-era landscape behind it.
