East Columbia sits along a quiet bend of the Brazos River in Brazoria County, roughly nine miles west of Angleton. With fewer than 150 residents, it is a tiny, close-knit rural hamlet defined by century-old live oaks and wide-open green spaces. The community dates back to the 1820s, when pioneer Josiah Bell established a river landing that quickly grew into a lively trading hub for steamboats and schooners carrying cotton and sugar down toward the Gulf Coast.
