East Liberty, OH

East Liberty is a Logan County community just off US 33, ten miles east of Bellefontaine and about 46 miles northwest of Columbus. It was platted in 1834 and has had a post office since 1836, giving the small Perry Township settlement a long-running place on the local map. Otter Creek passes through the southern side before joining Mill Creek and the Scioto River. That watercourse, along with the nearby highway, ties the community's compact footprint to the larger central Ohio landscape.

East Liberty also had a brief academic chapter. Alonzo Skidmore organized Central Ohio College in 1882, and the school was formally established the following year before closing in the late 1890s. Today, the biggest names attached to the place are industrial: Honda's East Liberty Auto Plant opened in 1989, and the Transportation Research Center operates NHTSA's Vehicle Research and Testing Center nearby. With 371 residents in 2020, East Liberty remains small in population and sits beside major manufacturing and vehicle-testing activity.
