East Point gets its name from its railroad roots as the eastern end of the old Atlanta and West Point line. Trains remain central to getting around, but these days it is the downtown MARTA station that residents rely on. Sitting right on the Red and Gold lines, the station makes commuting into central Atlanta or catching a flight at Hartsfield-Jackson remarkably quick and stress-free. Around Main Street, you will find historic brick storefronts, City Hall, and leafy residential streets that give the downtown area a distinct, walkable charm.

Downtown also serves as the social heartbeat of the community. The Downtown Commons regularly hosts open-air events like the weekly Eats and Beats farmers market, seasonal festivals, outdoor concerts, and holiday gatherings. Along Main and East Point streets, local coffee spots, independent eateries, and bakeries give the neighborhood a friendly, grounded feel. East Point is proud of its heritage as a historic cultural hub in South Fulton, home to a diverse and welcoming community of young professionals, growing families, and longtime residents.

When it comes to everyday errands and big shopping trips, the Camp Creek area on the west side handles the heavy lifting. Camp Creek Marketplace is packed with major retail chains, grocery stores, and casual dining spots, making weekend errands simple and convenient. The surrounding corridor also serves as a major commercial center, providing plenty of local jobs across business parks and logistics hubs. Frequent bus routes link the downtown district directly with Camp Creek, making it easy to travel between both sides of town even without a car.

Outdoor recreation here comes with some genuine local character, starting with the Dick Lane Velodrome in Sumner Park. As one of the only banked concrete bicycle tracks in the country and a former training site for the 1996 Olympics, it hosts lively Friday night races and youth cycling clinics in a cozy neighborhood park setting. If you prefer a quiet walk in the woods, Connally Nature Park offers peaceful, shaded trails on the east side of town. Between the local playgrounds, ball fields, and green spaces, there are plenty of spots to get outside and unwind.
