About East Point
East Point’s transportation story did not end when the railroad terminus gave the city its name. The East Point MARTA station now places downtown on both the Red and Gold lines, the same north-south rail corridor that serves Five Points and Atlanta’s airport. Current MARTA schedules call for trains about every ten minutes during weekday peaks, twelve minutes during the middle of the day, and twenty minutes late in the evening and on weekends; six bus routes and a demand-response zone also connect at the station. That service gives residents an alternative to driving for airport and central Atlanta trips, while the average journey to work still measured 30.2 minutes during 2020 through 2024.

The station district also functions as a gathering place. East Point’s 2026 calendar put weekly Eats & Beats farmers markets at Downtown Commons, music on Main Street, and the Fourth of July festival in the center. Camp Creek Marketplace creates a separate large retail cluster farther west, so shopping and events are not confined to the historic core. Public recreation is similarly distributed. The city’s park roster includes neighborhood fields and playgrounds as well as Connally Nature Park and the Dick Lane Velodrome; the latter is a one-fifth-mile concrete cycling track with 36-degree banks, green space, and a creek within its infield.

These amenities serve a city of 38,225 residents as estimated in July 2025, nearly unchanged from the April 2020 estimate base. During 2020 through 2024, Black residents accounted for 75.7 percent. With owners occupying 43.6 percent of homes, renters formed the majority; the median value of owner-occupied homes was $281,600, and median gross rent was $1,364. The poverty rate was 19.9 percent, placing economic strain beside regional access and redevelopment. That context gives practical weight to rail service and free public events: both are shared resources in a city where roughly one in five residents fell below the poverty line during the estimate period.
