East Rockaway is a South Shore village in Nassau County, tucked among waterways near Hewlett Harbor and Lynbrook. Originally called Near Rockaway, it developed as a shipping and trading center, which makes sense given its waterside location. Today it feels like a compact Long Island village, with older homes, small parks, local schools, and quick access to surrounding South Shore communities. Recreation spots such as the John Street Complex and Waverly Park give residents useful local gathering places in a very built-up part of the island.
