Ector, TX

Ector is a Fannin County city six miles west of Bonham, where Farm Road 898 meets U.S. 82 near Caney Creek. Farmers settled here in the late nineteenth century, and the community first carried the name Victor’s Station before taking the name of pioneer Ector Owens. The Texas and Pacific Railway reached Ector in 1892, turning the place into a shipping point for area farms. By the early twentieth century, the town had a church, school, bank, and several businesses clustered around that rail connection.

Ector Independent School District remains central to the city’s local map, while U.S. 82 and the roads toward Bonham and Savoy connect residents to the larger North Texas work and service area. The railway is no longer the main engine of town life, but its imprint remains in Ector’s origins and street pattern. Today the city holds onto a practical small-town shape: Caney Creek country, school schedules, farm roads, and a community name that began with one settler’s place in local history.
