Edgeley, ND

Edgeley is a small LaMoure County city on North Dakota's open prairie, founded in 1886 by Richard Sykes. Sykes was an English landowner who bought large tracts of Northern Dakota Territory, developed wheat farms, and gave several new towns English names. Edgeley took its name from the place of his birth in Cheshire; nearby Sykeston, Bowdon, Chaseley, and Alfred also carry pieces of his naming map. The city's origin is therefore tied to both railroad-era settlement and one immigrant landowner's very particular view of the plains.

The farm story remains close to town. Edgeley grew in a wheat-growing region where soil, rail access, and the arrival of families determined whether a new place held on. The city keeps that history in its centennial book and local records, while LaMoure County roads connect it to surrounding fields and nearby communities.
