Efland, NC

Efland is an Orange County census-designated place on U.S. 70, three miles west of Hillsborough and five miles east of Mebane, with Interstate 85 Exit 160 doing much of the regional connecting. The 2020 census counted 852 residents. The community began as Green Springs and took shape along the road-and-rail corridor between the county seat and Mebane. It sits in the in-between space of Orange County: close enough to both towns for errands, still organized around its own school-and-park cluster. Efland-Cheeks Community Park shares a site with Efland-Cheeks School; the community center opened in 1992, and later park phases added a lighted walking track, ballfield, basketball courts, picnic shelters, and a playground.

The shared site makes school and recreation one stop. The Efland Ruritan Club also hosts an annual rodeo and holiday parades. Efland's local scoop is a road-and-rail community whose everyday map is built around a school park, U.S. 70, and an interstate exit, with Hillsborough and Mebane just outside its edges.
