Electric City, WA

Electric City is a Grant County city at the northern end of the Grand Coulee, southwest of Grand Coulee Dam and near Lake Roosevelt. The 2020 census counted 956 residents. State Route 155 ties Electric City to Grand Coulee and the dam, while the lake, campgrounds, boat launches, city services, and small businesses shape the local working map. The Grand Coulee Dam School District serves the area, and school, utility, and recreation systems all look toward the reservoir and the dam corridor.

Electric City was established in 1934 as a settlement for workers building the future dam. President Franklin Roosevelt stopped there during his 1934 tour of the dam site, and 500 lots had been platted by August. The name stayed linked to the power project nearby. Today, Lake Roosevelt brings boating and fishing, while the Grand Coulee Dam visitor route, State Route 155, and the basin's federal water and power infrastructure connect the city to a much larger landscape. Electric City grew from a construction settlement into a reservoir community, with the dam still present in the roads, jobs, school district, and local calendar.
