Moses Lake, WA

Moses Lake gets its name from Chief Moses of the Columbia-Sinkiuse people, who lived throughout this part of central Washington long before settlers arrived. Originally established as a small orchard community named Neppel, the town really found its footing once major irrigation projects tapped the Columbia River basin. That steady water supply turned the dry landscape into fertile farmland and helped Moses Lake grow into the sunny, welcoming hub it is today.

The lake itself shapes almost every corner of town. Its long coves wind right through residential neighborhoods, so you are never more than a short drive from the water. On warm summer days, locals head out for boating, paddleboarding, and fishing for bass and walleye. Right near downtown, McCosh Park draws crowds for lakeside walks, evening concerts, and the popular Surf 'n Slide Water Park. During World War II, the military built an air base here that later became Grant County International Airport. Because it features one of the longest runways in the country, the airfield regularly hosts flight testing for major aerospace companies like Boeing. The surrounding port area has grown into a major center for aviation, manufacturing, and clean tech, providing a steady and diverse job market for newcomers.
