About Elk River

Elk River is a city in the northwestern United States in Clearwater County, Idaho. The 2020 census counted 139 residents. Elk River is accessed from State Highway 8 from Bovill, to the west in adjacent Latah County. Formerly the site of a Potlatch sawmill, it was phased out after several decades during the 1930s. The public school was closed 36 years ago in 1990 and students attend classes in Bovill in Latah County. Elk River makes sense once you see how its past, landscape, and current gathering spots overlap. The useful thing to know about Elk River is that its older landmarks and current settings belong to one connected place. Elk River includes the Bugle recognized Elk River.
