About Elm City

Elm City is a Nash and Wilson County town in the Wilson metropolitan area, with a split-county identity and a strong local school story. Its Elm City Municipal Historic District preserves late-nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century homes, churches, and civic buildings, while the W. Langley House and Webb-Barron-Wells House are also listed on the National Register. The old Gothic Revival school building, now Elm City Middle School, keeps the town's education history visible along with the older street grid.

Elm City Elementary and Elm City Middle School serve the town's younger students, and the school tradition includes the former Frederick Douglass School and the coaching legacy of Harvey Reid. The town sits close enough to Wilson for regional work and services, but its historic district and school buildings give it a separate center of gravity. Elm City is a North Carolina town where county lines, local institutions, and preserved architecture meet: a place with a name drawn from its trees, a history carried by schools, and a residential core that still makes the old town legible.
