About Elon

Elon is a small Alamance County town best known as the home of Elon University. The town began in 1881 as a North Carolina Railroad depot between Goldsboro and Charlotte, originally called Mill Point because of its location between cotton mills. Graham Normal College, the institution that became Elon University, gave the town its lasting purpose and name. Today Elon feels like a college town at a compact scale, with campus life, neighborhoods, and Burlington-area commuting all woven together.
