Elsberry, MO

Elsberry was laid out in 1871 and named for Robert T. Elsberry, one of the town’s founders; the town site was formally platted in 1879. That gives this Lincoln County city a straightforward local origin, with a founder’s name carried into the present street map. Elsberry R-II schools serve the municipality, and the Joseph R. Grundy Memorial Library keeps a civic institution close to the center of town. The local shorthand is northeast Missouri, founder-name history, and a small city whose school, library, and original plat still tell the basic story.
