Elwood, NE

Elwood is Gosper County's seat, a Nebraska village where the 2020 census counted 658 residents. The town was platted in 1885 when the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad reached this stretch of south-central Nebraska, and it took its name from homesteader Elwood Thomas. County history gives Elwood the seat in 1888 after a contested election, so the railroad town also became the place where courthouse work and county records settled. U.S. 283 and Nebraska 23 meet here, with the village lying south of Elwood Reservoir.

Elwood Public Schools carries students from preschool through 12th grade and uses Pirates as its mascot.
