Empire City got its start in the late 1910s during the southwest Oklahoma oil rush. When drilling took off across Stephens County, the area exploded almost overnight into a bustling settlement of several thousand oil workers, dirt roads, and packed storefronts. While the wild energy of those early boomtown days eventually cooled down, that historic era firmly anchored the community in the countryside southwest of Duncan.

Today, Empire City offers a quiet, spread-out rural lifestyle where life largely centers around the local Empire School District.
