About Emporia

Emporia is a city and the county seat of Lyon County, Kansas, situated in the eastern part of the state. Founded in 1857 and named after the ancient Phoenician commercial city of Carthage, the community of approximately 24,100 is a major center of trade. The city is home to Emporia State University and hosts world-renowned sporting events, including the Unbound Gravel cycling race and the Dynamic Discs Open disc golf tournament.
