About Enfield

Enfield is Halifax County's oldest town, founded in 1740 and part of the Roanoke Rapids micropolitan area. Its biggest market story came later: peanut buying and cleaning stations once made Enfield the world's largest raw peanut market. Before that, the 1759 Enfield Riot put the town into the pre-Revolutionary argument over land fees and British authority. Enfield is eastern North Carolina in a peanut-and-history shape, with an old market town still carrying one of the state's sharper colonial stories.
