About Escatawpa

Escatawpa is a Jackson County census-designated place on the east side of the Pascagoula River, just north of Moss Point in the Pascagoula metro. The 2020 census counted 3,254 residents. The community takes its name from the Escatawpa River, and a post office operated here by 1885. The two rivers set the map: Escatawpa sits between the inland county landscape and the Pascagoula's coastal river system that carries the wider area toward the Gulf. Most of the community attends schools in the Moss Point district, while a smaller section falls in Jackson County's district.

Moss Point forms the southern edge, and the wider Pascagoula area supplies the region's larger employment and service network, but Escatawpa keeps its own name and a very clear geography between the rivers and the county roads. The Jackson County map also brings in wetlands, floodplain, and the Pascagoula River basin, so water is part of the practical story here, not just scenery. Escatawpa's local scoop is a river-country community where two waterways, two school districts, and the Moss Point edge meet in one long stretch of Jackson County.
