Essary Springs, TN

Essary Springs sits along the banks of the Hatchie River in southern Hardeman County. In the late 1800s, people traveled here for the natural mineral springs on the Essary family farm, turning the area into a welcoming little resort complete with a hotel, general stores, and a post office. The community also became an early hub for education when teachers founded the Freed School in 1888, and that historic building still serves the area today as the Essary Springs Church of Christ.

Today, Essary Springs is a quiet, spread-out country community bordered by farmland and the scenic Hatchie River. Because the river flows freely without dams, the surrounding landscape is full of lush wetlands, quiet backwaters, and deep woods perfect for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
