Eureka, KS

Set along the Fall River in south-central Kansas, Eureka is the hub of Greenwood County. The town grew up around the railroad during the late 1800s, quickly turning into an active cattle and oil center. You can still see plenty of that heritage in the brick storefronts along Main Street and the grand Greenwood Hotel, which dates back to 1883. As the county seat, Eureka stays lively with courthouse business, locally owned shops, and easy access to the surrounding prairie and river.

The town also has an unexpected footnote in history with Utopia College, an experimental business school founded in the 1940s by investor Roger Babson. While the school closed decades ago, it remains a favorite piece of local lore. Today, daily life revolves around the neighborhood schools, community gatherings at the restored hotel, and an inviting downtown filled with colorful murals and historic architecture. It is an easygoing small town with deep ranching roots and a friendly, tight-knit feel.
