Export, PA

Export is a Westmoreland County borough surrounded by Murrysville, with a name that gives away its industrial past. Coal was mined here and shipped out by rail, and the Export Mine became one of Westmoreland County's biggest operations in the early twentieth century. The Turtle Creek Valley Railroad reached the mine in the 1890s, bringing workers' housing, a post office, and a compact borough landscape built around extraction and movement.

Coal is no longer the daily engine, yet the old mine story still organizes how Export is understood. The Free Gospel Bible Institute occupies a campus in the borough, and Franklin Regional School District serves local students through schools in nearby Murrysville. Export's setting inside the larger Murrysville municipality gives residents access to a broad suburban-rural network while keeping a separate borough government and postal name. A drive through town passes the district court area, older homes, and traces of the mine-era settlement. Export is a small western Pennsylvania borough where a coal-shipping name and a present-day Bible college meet.
