About Fairfield
Fairfield is a city in western Jefferson County, Alabama, and a suburb within the Birmingham metropolitan area. Founded in 1910, the town's dedication featured a speech by former President Theodore Roosevelt. While the local steel industry has declined from its peak, U.S. Steel's Fairfield Works remains a major industrial employer. The city runs its own independent school system and is home to Miles College, a historically black liberal arts college.
