Fairforest, SC

Fairforest is a census-designated place west of Spartanburg, alongside Arcadia and Saxon in Spartanburg County. The 2010 census counted 1,646 residents. During the American Revolution, Fairforest was one of the few regions in South Carolina where Loyalists outnumbered Patriots. A post office opened as Fair Forest in 1884, and local tradition says the name came from a pioneer looking across the wooded country and calling it a fair forest.

Modern Fairforest is tied to Spartanburg by roads and school lines, while Arcadia and Saxon make the edges blend into a larger suburban corridor. Streets west of the city move quickly from settled blocks toward wooded creek country and school campuses. Spartanburg County School District Six includes Fairforest Elementary and Fairforest Middle, giving the CDP two prominent local landmarks. Fairforest Creek and the surrounding neighborhoods keep the place connected to the county's older landscape, even as daily routines run toward Spartanburg. Its local map combines Revolutionary-era loyalties, an 1884 post office, creek-country names, and school campuses serving western Spartanburg.
